What we achieve
StrategyMedFor’s main output is the development of a Strategy for Sustainable Management of Mediterranean Forests (SSMMF). The project has gathered 7 partners in 6 countries of the Interreg Cooperation area plus relevant associated partners from the forest EU & international scene, to support mission 2 of the Interreg programme to “protect, restore & valorise the Natural environment & Heritage”.
Sustainability
We follow EU and international forest policies to address knowledge gaps in sustainable management of Mediterranean forests. Our project, StrategyMedFor, aims to create a strategy for each forest type, considering future climate scenarios.
What makes us unique? We’ll use new technologies and combine data across the Mediterranean region. This includes satellite data, geographic information systems, and climate modeling.
Our goal is for this strategy to be a key document for the next decade, guiding forest protection, restoration, and building resilience. We’ll also create tools like real-time forest condition maps and priority action areas to improve sustainable management at all levels.
The StrategyMedFor project is more than just creating a plan; it’s about inspiring real change. By implementing our sustainable forest management strategy, we hope to achieve a ripple effect across the Mediterranean region. Imagine healthier forests teeming with life, communities empowered to manage their resources effectively, and a future where these vital ecosystems continue to thrive for generations to come. This is the transformative power of StrategyMedFor, and we invite you to join us in making it a reality. Explore our website to learn more about how you can get involved.
Deliverables
As part of its commitment to supporting knowledge sharing and evidence-based decision-making, StrategyMedFor has developed a wide range of technical reports, policy briefs, methodologies, tools, and guidance documents throughout the project lifecycle.
To facilitate access to these resources, all public project deliverables are available through the Forest Ecosystem Knowledge Platform.

Transboundary action plan
As part of the StrategyMedFor Regional Workshop held in Ohrid (North Macedonia), Session 4 was dedicated to the collaborative development of the Transboundary Forest Action Plan for the Prespa–Ohrid landscape.
The session brought together protected area authorities, forest experts and institutional representatives from North Macedonia, Albania and Greece to exchange knowledge, present the first draft of the Action Plan and jointly review its six strategic priority areas through an interactive participatory exercise. Participants identified strengths, discussed implementation challenges and proposed improvements to ensure that the plan reflects shared regional priorities and practical management needs.
The recording provides valuable insights into the collaborative process behind the Action Plan and illustrates how transboundary cooperation is being translated into concrete actions to support resilient and sustainable forest management across the Prespa–Ohrid landscape.
