Strategic Roadmap for Enhancing the Sustainability and Resilience of Mediterranean Forests
Key Themes of the Workshop
The workshop will take place from 3-5 June 2025 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina and will cover the following themes:
- Highlights of Applied Strategy for Sustainable Management of Mediterranean Forests (SSMMF): An overview on the ingredients of the SSMMF development process, its rational, objectives, and key components, with a focus on the strategic framework, climate change impacts, and policy orientations.
- Final List of Criteria and Supplementary Indicators: A session presenting the final list of criteria and supplementary indicators for forest protection, restoration, and resilience fitting the Mediterranean reality and needs. This includes discussions on the importance of these supplementary indicators in informing about Mediterranean Forest health and resilience.
- Progress and Refinement of Spatial indicators: The process of the spatialisation of supplementary indicators and generation of relevant knowledge base to inform about Forest health and resilience serving as a basis to guide monitoring efforts to assess progress to selected targets. Guided discussions will assess the reliability of these spatial indicators and their fit for purpose as measurable, feasible, and region-specific proxies to assess efforts for Assess Forest Management sustainability in time.
- Field visit to the Dinaric Alps including interactive discussions and validations of the protocols on the applicability of C&I and the spatial proxy results in-site
- Presentation on site level restoration actions from StrategyMedFor ongoing and planned in the Balkan region with a focus on sites from BiH, NM, and Greece.
